Indirect hot water tank heaters are a great option for homes with an existing forced hot water or steam heating system. How do they work?

Indirect water heaters are usually installed on forced hot water boiler systems by creating a separate primary heating zone with a pump specifically for the heater. The indirect hot water tank is piped to the supply and return sides of the boiler, and a built in aqua stat tells the boiler and pump when to turn on. Hot boiler water passing through a heat coil transfers heat to the domestic water side for use in showers, sinks and other plumbing fixtures requiring hot water.
